Discover Sydney’s Eclectic Architecture
Architectural Walkabout is part of a collection of unique and utterly compelling half day Sydney tours through the city’s streets. Each experience seamlessly combines Sydney’s colourful history, its modern and historic architecture as well as it’s eclectic food and beverage scene.
MODERN AND HERITAGE
Sydney’s history and architectural story is rich while still being so young on a global scale. New South Wales sits on a sandstone bed and many of our buildings are made from this beautiful stone. The buildings are not characterised by any one architectural style, but by an extensive juxtaposition of old and new architecture over the city’s 200-year history – from the Victorian buildings of the city centre created out of local Sydney sandstone, to Federation style and modernist high rise buildings
Your tour must being at Jørn Utzon’s Sydney Opera House, Sydney’s most famous architectural feat. Your guide is a passionate and qualified architect, who will provide a real sense of the city’s orientation, settlement and evolution, as well as stories of the international architects who have played a role in the development of the city. Then journey to Customs House hearing fascinating secrets most tourists don’t get to discover. Drink outstanding coffee only a local knows about.
THE FABRIC OF SYDNEY
Your guide will lead you to walk the city loop taking in Australia Square, Martin Place, Bligh Street and the architectural masterpiece that is the Museum of Sydney. When you are ready for some fresh air, leave the city streets and explore the Royal Botanic Gardens, passing ancient trees and Aboriginal sacred sites. The final stop is Manta Restaurant at Woolloomooloo Wharf for well earned oysters & champagne.

A Sydney boy, born and bred – Benjamin has always had a connection to both the natural and man-made world – textures, leaves, stones, trees, as well as creatures. He is an avid gardener and quite often finds himself at home outside collecting, observing and absorbing how things function.
Although he has a Masters degree in Architecture, he’s ultimately an ‘urbanist’ – having a keen interest in how cities grow, function and provide for us all. From the macro set-out and alignments of city structure to the quality and pattern of the paving on a footpath, he’s obsessed with it all.
Ben lives in Surry Hills and lives and breathes the lifestyle. He’s charismatic, charming and insanely intelligent.
What our clients say
“What a wonderful morning we had with Benjamin. An extraordinary young man with a wealth of knowledge to share all about Sydney, and all its SPLENDOURS. My friend also got along with Benjamin like a house fire. Together, their combined knowledge of Sydney architecture is one fabulous explosion of information for this utter novice. Thank you so much!”
